Alexie Dennie of Ecole secondaire Macdonald-Cartier has been named high school athlete of the week.

The Grade 12 student-athlete has participated in many sporting activities, including volleyball, basketball, swimming and track and field.

Dennis is Macdonald- Cartiers student athletic association president and has been a member since Grade 10.

Since Grade 10, she has played middle in volleyball. Last year, her team won Division I city championship and NOSSA and made it to the quarter-finals at the OFSAA championships.

In Grade 11, she won most improved player in volleyball and this year was awarded most valuable player on her team.

Relaxation of cap on shop sizes may attract international retail giants

THE PROSPECT of large international supermarket brands, including low-cost retailers, locating in Ireland has been given a boost with a relaxation of caps on shop sizes.

New retail planning guidelines, published last night by the Department of the Environment, will allow larger supermarkets and superstores to set up shop in Dublin and larger cities.

However, the new rules will reduce the number of locations where warehouse stores, such as Ikea or large DIY and garden retailers, can be built.
